indianapples

Last week, Afghanistan exported its first apples to India, according to Agence France Presse. Officials said that this development was a key step in the country’s exploration of international markets for its agricultural products.

The apples were reportedly sent to New Delhi via air and road, as part of efforts to encourage farmers to grow crops other than opium.

According to agriculture minister Mohammad Asif Rahimi, 3.3 tonnes of Afghan apples were sent by plane, with a further 9 tonnes going by road through Pakistan.

The minister said that he expected a total of around 400 tonnes to be shipped to India this season.
