Interpoma

The global apple sector will take centre stage at Interpoma 2010, the seventh edition of the biennial international apple industry trade fair, which is due to be held at the Fiera Bolzano convention centre in South Tyrol, Italy, on 4-6 November 2010.

According to the organisers, the event is once again set to attract leading international experts from the apple business to the northern Italian province, regarded by mandy as the cradle of the European apple industry.

The event is expected to provide an opportunity for trade professionals to assess the health of the sector, to unveil exciting new produce, to compare notes and to do business.

Interpoma is aiming to expand its international scope in 2010 following the excellent results achieved during its previous edition in 2008, when foreign visitors accounted for 40 per cent of the 11,653 visitors in attendance and official delegations attended from Germany, the US, Israel, Japan and New Zealand.

'The 2010 edition of Interpoma will see the involvement of trade associations from all countries, to provide a broader and more informed view of the world apple industry,' a spokesperson confirmed.

As in previous years, Interpoma 2010 will also host top-level conferences and meetings designed to tackle the most compelling issues concerning apple production and marketing, with international experts on hand to offer their expertise and insight.

The 'Apple in the World' conferences will include a meeting on apple production, sales and marketing in Mediterranean countries, a congress focusing on issues to do with pesticide residues and a session dealing with the use of apples as a raw material in processing.

Another highlight of potential interest to prospective participants will be a planned presentation by Isafruit, the European Fruit Research Institutes Network, which is expected to reveal the findings of a European study on apple production, storage and consumption that could help to measure more accurately the pulse of the global apple sector.
