Labelling specialist Sinclair is preparing to demonstrate the effectiveness of its new Variable Print System (VPS) at Fruit Logistica this year, which takes place on 3-5 February at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds in Germany.
According to the group, the VPS allows traditionally variable information such as barcodes, PLU's, dates and batch number to be printed at the point of application, as opposed to being pre-printed on individual produce labels.
'The VPS will help simplify label inventory stocking requirements, particularly for customers with a large variety of labels, as well as allowing them the flexibility in their labelling programmes to add dates or lot numbers to the labels,' said Rick Goddard, senior vice-president of marketing at the group. 'Inventory proliferation due to multiple PLU or barcode labels (up to four per variety) has proven a logistical and financial challenge for many packers, especially in the US, and for packers supplying the US market.'
Variable Print System already prints barcodes just prior to application, according to Mr Goddard. 'Databar coded fruit labels are becoming a standard requirement for retailers in the US,' he added. 'Another great advantage of Sinclair VPS is that it retrofits onto existing, proven Sinclair high-speed labellers.'
As part of the company's display at the event, visitors to Sinclair's stand (Hall 3.1, Stand C-19) have the opportunity to have their photograph reproduced on a fruit label.
