Vietnamese exporters are working overtime to fill orders for traditional products overseas in the run-up to the Tet festival (Chinese New Year).

The demand for Vietnamese Tet specialties is increasing in foreign markets, according to local traders, particularly for glutinous rice cakes and dried fruit, reported VNS.

But fresh fruit is also playing a part; Nguyen Xuan Huy, director of Ngoc Ngan Agricultural Processing Joint Stock Company in the southern Tien Giang Province, told VNS his employees were working late into the night to fill orders from an Italian importer for more than 100 tonnes of fruit.

Chillies, ginger and dragon fruit in particular are heading out to South Korea, Malaysia and Singapore for the festival, said trader At Long Uyen One Member Co.

While the demand ramped up, some traders cautioned that to sustain the trade Vietnamese producers and exporters must give food safety and hygiene top priority.
