Tesco has appointed retail veteran Tjeerd Jegen as chief executive officer for Malaysia. Mr Jegen was formerly Tesco's chief operating officer for its Thailand arm Tesco Lotus, which has 650 stores and 35,000 employees.
He replaces Chris Bush, who has moved to Tesco Thailand as chief executive officer, Retail Week reported, and at Tesco Malaysia he will be responsible for 33 stores with over 11,000 staff.
In 2007 Mr Jegen was in charge of successful Romanian hypermarket chain Real, and increased their sales from €97m to €900m in just two years at the helm.
