Singapore's biggest supermarket retailer, the world’s largest kiwifruit marketer and one of the titans of the Philippines' tropical fruit business are among the high-profile organisations that will be speaking at Asiafruit Congress in Hong Kong on 8-10 September.

Safer fresh food for Asian shoppers

Tng Ah Yiam, managing director of group purchasing, merchandising and international trading for Singaporean retailer NTUC Fairprice Co-operative, joins the Asiafruit Congress programme’s opening session entitled 'Safer fresh food for Asian shoppers: the role for food retail'. Speaking as co-chairman of Singapore Cold Chain Centre and chairman of ECR Singapore, Mr Tng will present on food safety through effective cold chain management.

Thomas Vadeboncoeur of global retail consultant Goodheart Resource, Karen Lee of major Hong Kong supermarket chain Wellcome and Elizabeth Darragh of cold chain monitoring company Sensitech join Mr Tng in offering their expert opinions.

Doing direct business in China

Kelvin Bezuidenhout, Asian marketing manager for global kiwifruit marketer Zespri International, will discuss the company's rapid gains in the China market and its work in getting closer to retailers and consumers there. Zespri has forecast that China could account for 20 per cent of its international sales within just 10 years, which would make it the company's largest single market.

Other key industry players will also outline their approaches to the Chinese market, including John Wang and Jim Provost of Chinese fruit importer Lantao and Antony Butler of Newfresh Asia/Hydix Asia, which is partnered with South African giant Karsten Holdings and is developing the Chinese market for imported fruits from a range of origins.

The Philippines: spotlight on an emerging market

Francisco Lorenzo of Lapanday Holdings, one of the Philippines’ leading vertically integrated tropical fruit companies, has signed up to take part in the first-ever session dedicated to discussing the South East Asian country at the Asiafruit Congress. Mr Lorenzo will share his views on the Philippines’ performance in export markets, and the opportunities and challenges it faces in the future.

Convening at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, organiser Asiafruit Magazine offers delegates an exclusive 20 per cent saving on registration fees made online at www.asiafruitcongress.com by 6 September, with further savings available for groups wishing to attend.
