Korea lifts Santiago quarantine restrictions

South Korea has lifted quarantine measures imposed on fresh fruit imports from the Chilean province of Santiago, reports FreshPlaza.

The South Korean government officially announced the move on 5 August once the region had been deemed fruit-fly free, the publication said.

The quarantine measures were adopted two years ago following a fruit-fly outbreak in the province.

Efforts to reclaim Santiago's fruit-fly-free status were spearheaded by a public-private partnership involving the Chilean government and key Chilean export bodies.

Thanks to a public-private partnership involving Chile’s department of agriculture and key Chilean export organisations, the Province of Santiago has been declared fruit-fly-free for two consecutive seasons, the report said.
