Chinese fresh produce distributor Golden Wing Mau has established a joint venture company – Yandong Jiasheng Agricultural Produce Trading Co – which will operate from a lychee packhouse in Yangjiang in south-western Guangdong Province.

Golden Wing Mau’s Zhang Jun told Fruitnet that the venture would focus on exporting fresh produce – primarily lychee, longan, citrus and vegetables – to international markets, including the US, France, Canada, Australia, South East Asia and Hong Kong. It will also serve more than 80 supermarkets across China’s major cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

The new company boasts a packhouse operation spanning 10,000m2 and export-registered production bases for lychee, longan and vegetables covering 1,334ha, according to Mr Zhang. The operation is also equipped with three coldstorage rooms with the capacity to hold 200 tonnes of product. “The plant has a daily processing capacity of 800 tonnes, so we can handle 600 to 700 containers per year,” he said.

Since its official opening at the end of June, Yandong Jiasheng Agricultural Produce Trading Co has exported 10 containers of lychee to the US. “Our main aim is to provide farmers with an all-in-one service from purchasing to processing,” said Mr Zhang. “By combining the company, the facilities, the farmers and professional cooperation, we hope to build a platform that can provide the growers with proper management and market information.”
