Wholesales prices for vegetables in Taiwan fell significantly over the weekend as growers rushed to harvest ahead of the approaching Typhoon Fanapi.
Taipei Agricultural Products Marketing Corp (TAPMC) figures show average prices fell around 15 per cent, reported the Taipei Times.
The Taipei City Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market sold 2,155 tonnes of vegetables yesterday, for an average price of NT$28.6 (US$0.90) per kg, the Times reported, down from Saturday’s average price of NT$33.5 (US$1.06) per kg.
Fruit prices stayed stable, however, with 638 tonnes sold in Sunday at an average price of NT$30.8 (US$0.97) per kg.
Premium vegetables also retained their high price points; sweet capsicums sold for NT$105 (US$3.32) per kg, green beans at NT$130 (US$4.10), baby corn at NT$100 (US$3.16), Chinese leeks at NT$107 (US$3.38), garlic at NT$135 (US$4.26) and asparagus at NT$260 (US$8.21) per kg.
Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau lifted its warnings this morning for Typhoon Fanapi as the storm headed for mainland China.
