Paolo Bruni

Paolo Bruni has stepped down as president of Apo Conerpo, one of Italy's largest fruit and vegetable producer organisations and a major player in the international fresh produce market, after 16 years in the role.

Announcing his decision, Mr Bruni said he had opted to relinquish his position at Apo Conerpo in order to dedicate more time to his European commitments.

Mr Bruni is president of both the European farming cooperatives association Cogeca and Italian marketing organisation CSO, which in recent years has seen its marketing and research activities extended to pan-European and global promotion of Italian fresh fruit and vegetable companies.

Mr Bruni praised the contribution made by all those with whom he had worked at the group since being appointed as president back in 1995.

'These have been years of hard work, during which time our group has succeeded in growing economically in terms of its size, turnover and leadership through the willingness and efforts of everyone involved,' he commented.

'We have achieved extraordinary goals which have contributed to the development of the entire fresh produce industry,' he said.

'In order to dedicate myself more actively to a European role which is absolutely key to our future, I am leaving this role after 16 years with pride in having represented one of the most advanced parts of the Italian fresh produce business and the satisfaction of always having been able to maintain cohesion within this great group.'
