Authorities in the Indian capital Delhi have launched an investigation into levels of pesticides present on vegetables sold in the city.
At the behest of a court in Delhi, authorities will randomly test vegetables sold by vendors there, according to a report by the BBC.
The order came following reports that banned pesticides were being used in the domestic production of fruit and vegetables, putting the health of consumers at risk.
According to the news agency, a study recently found that the fresh produce industry in India used as much as 750 times the amount of pesticides recommended by European standards.
Non-government agency Consumer Voice recently published findings that four of five internationally banned pesticides were present on fruit and vegetables sold in Delhi.
