Last week, the French ministry of agriculture announced plans to give aid to fruit farmers affected by the frost that struck parts of the country during the spring, in particular apricot growers in the Rhône valley.

The action plan has been estimated at some €110m, most of which – around €98m – will go toward disaster compensation.

The national federation of fruit producers (FNPF) welcomed the announcement, but called also for the introduction of a suitable crop insurance scheme.
