Pineberry Waitrose

UK supermarket Waitrose is once again to stock pineberries following excellent sales when they were launched last year.

The fruit, which is originally from South America, resembles a strawberry but has white skin, red pips and a taste similar to that of a pineapple.

Waitrose is the only supermarket to sell the fruit in the UK, at £3.99 (€4.50) per 100g punnet.

Nicki Baggott, fruit buyer for Waitrose, commented: 'Last year, pineberries were seen as an April Fool's, but these tasty little berries are no joke. I'm sure they will be as popular as last year, where we saw them selling out as fast as we could stock our shelves.'

According to a press release from the retailer, pineberries will be available for the next five weeks in 45 stores nationwide.
