Maersk Line, the Denmark-based global shipping company, has revealed that it is set to deploy larger vessels on its routes between Europe and West Africa.

According to reports from RB-Borsen, the ships will have a capacity of 3,430 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) and will operate on routes connecting the port of Algeciras in southern Spain and Tangar in northern Morocco with African ports including Abidjan, Tema and Dakar.

The ships will be the largest ever deployed on routes between Europe and West Africa. The vessels currently used on the route did not exceed a capacity of 2,800 TEUs.

Additionally, parent group AP Moller-Maersk has announced that Jan Kjaervik will join the group on 1 September2008 as Head of Group Finance, replacing Jørgen Engell, who will retireafter 35 years at the company.
