Danie Maartens has resigned as managing director of South African port handling operation Fresh Produce Terminals (FPT), which is Capespan Group’s logistics division, to pursue new opportunities. Dawie Ferreira, FPT’s chairman, will stand in as managing director until a permanent appointment has been made.

Juan Varilias, president of the Peruvian Exporters Association (Adex), has retained his title for another term, according to a press release from the organisation. Mr Varilias is now apparently looking to meet with Peru’s presidential candidates Keiko Fujimori and Ollanta Humala as well as elected congressmen to present a series of proposals that have been designed to generate employment through greater overseas promotion of Peruvian agricultural products.

On 28 April, Peru’s leading agricultural group Camposol moved to appoint Samuel B Dyer Coriat as the group’s chairman of the board of directors. Samuel E Dyer Ampudia, meanwhile, remains a member of the board and also deputy chairman.

The United Fresh Produce Association has elected Joe Huston, president of Chiquita Brands North America, to fill the seat formerly held by Brian Kocher prior to his move to head up Chiquita’s European operations.

Carrefour has announced that James McCann, executive director for the group’s French segment, has left the company, with CEO Lars Olofsson taking over the operational management of Carrefour’s activities in France pending the appointment of a replacement.

UK-based Berry Gardens used its AGM as an opportunity to thank Marion Regan, who stood down as chairman at the end of 2010. Berry Gardens’ new chairman, Paul Kelsey commented. “There are few people who have served Berry Gardens with as much enthusiasm and passion and I am delighted Marion will continue to do so as a key member of the Berry Gardens Growers Board.”

Swiss logistics group Kuehne & Nagel (K&N) has revealed that Klaus-Michael Kuehne is standing down from the position of chairman of the company jointly founded by his grandfather 1890. He will be replaced by executive vice-chairman Karl Gernandt.
