Grapes

The Greek grape season is expected to arrive approximately one week late this year due to climatic problems including heavy rainfall during the flowering period in the late spring, with the first volumes set to be ready in mid-August.

Also, according to Christos Mitrosilis of exporter Mitrosilis, production volumes in the country are anticipated to be down by around 15-20 per cent.

However, due to improvements in the weather conditions at the end of June, quality expectations are high this season.

“Nice north winds have been blowing from the sea to the vines,” says Mitrosilis, “and the dry warm weather has been good for the grapes. There has also been good water availability due to the winter rains, which is a big help for irrigation.”
