Fruttital solar panels

Italian fresh produce importer Fruttital, part of GF Group and a subsidiary of GF Distribuzione, has completed the installation of solar panel systems at six of its nine facilities across the country.

As a result, the company's sites in Albenga, Bologna, Cagliari, Florence, Molfetta and Rome will now produce approximately 2.5 megawatt hours of clean energy per year, it revealed, enough to meet 20 per cent of its total energy needs.

Fruttital said it had invested a total of around €6m in the project, which has seen the installation of 13,000m2 of solar panels.

The systems, which have a total combined power of 1.8 MWp, will apparently allow the six facilities to limit emissions of carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, mono-nitrogen oxides and other particles, significantly reducing their energy dependence on the national network with consequent benefits for the environment.

Paolo Mauti, managing director of Fruttital, commented: 'With this project we hope to reach two important results: to give a contribution to environmental protection and to gain a more competitive position for the company in the market thanks to a partial recovery of the expenses linked to energy costs.'

He added: 'In this case, the corporate objectives aimed at maximising efficiency will reflect positively on the environment in full respect of an ecological awareness which we hope will become more and more widespread for the well-being of the community.'
