The International Federation for Produce Standards (IFPS) has announced that it will hold its first regional meeting in Asia on 8 September this year during Asia Fruit Logistica in Hong Kong.
IFPS has invited Asian trade associations and industry leaders in the region to join in a small forum to discuss global standardisation efforts in product identification, chain information management, and food safety.
The forum will include comments from recently-appointed IFPS chairman Tom Stenzel, CEO of the United Fresh Produce Association, and Tom den Hertog, chair of Frug I Com and the former president of Ahold Asia Pacific and founder of Tops Supermarkets in South East Asia.
Stenzel will present a brief overview of IFPS activities, including food safety, before Den Hertog shares his views on developments in the different continents and focuses on the common need for harmonisation in electronic communication and the use of electronic standards as a way of product identification.
