US retail giant Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has announced that David Cheesewright, president and CEO of Walmart Canada, as the new head of a restructured regional management team that covers Canada, the UK and sub-Saharan Africa.

In his new position of executive vice-president, president and CEO of the team, he will oversee business development in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Canada, reporting directly to Walmart Inter5national president Doug McMillon.

'Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Canada hold tremendous potential for our company and we are excited to have David Cheesewright leading the team,' said McMillon. 'Since joining the company, David has been a champion for our customer, led innovation and delivered returns.'

Cheesewright has previously held a number of different leadership positions at Walmart's UK operation Asda, a company he joined in 1999.

'Walmart has a strong and successful presence in Canada, Sub-Saharan Africa and the United Kingdom,' said Cheesewright. 'I look forward to continuing this success and bringing our mission of saving people money so they can live better to even more families across the region.'

Meanwhile, Shelley Broader will replace Cheesewright as president and CEO of Walmart Canada.
