So-called 'supersize' Torres avocados will be available in Tesco stores in the UK for the next two months as part of a promotion with importer Worldwide Fruit and growers in Argentina's Tucuman region.
According to the importer, Torres avocados typically grow to three times the size of a medium-sized avocado and can weigh up to 1kg.
The variety also changes colour from green to black as it ripens, giving an indication of the optimum time of consumption, said the company's product manager for avocados, Mark Everett.
He said: 'The variety also has a relatively small stone and plenty of flesh givingcustomers great value for money and it is perfect for a spectacularprawn cocktail or a supersized super tasty portion of guacamole.'
In a statement, Tesco buyer Weronika Szala added: 'Torres is an exciting variety which has been specifically selected for our Finest range. This will now add further choice for customers in our new look range and we are sure customers will love them.'
The 'supersize' avocados will be available in selected Tesco stores for £1.50 from October to December.
