The Grand Alliance (GA), the leading integrated consortium in global container shipping, has moved to enhance its cargo hub services in the Mediterranean by moving its transshipment hub from Gioia Tauro to Cagliari International Container Terminal.

According to a statement by NYK Line, a GA member along with OOCL, Hapag-Lloyd and MISC, the move to the southern Sardinian terminal will take place during mid-September 2008.

The GA hopes to enhance schedule reliability as a result of the move, particularly on the EU2 and AEX services, due to less congestion at Cagliari.

The Cagliari International Container Terminal had been a hub for Maersk until the group ceased operations at the facility in 2007.
