Mexican fresh produce exporter Comercializadora Tierra Mexicana (Comtiem) has revealed that it is adopting Purfresh technology in the long-haul shipment of its limes from Mexico to Europe and the UK, in a bid to maintain fruit quality and improve the company's bottom line.

According to Comtiem, the deployment of Purfresh leverages the shipping industry's ony active atmosphere system, providing a cost-effective solution to reduce decay and control the ripening process.

'We experienced a significant difference in the quality of the fruit for voyages longer than 14 days utilising the Purfresh system compared with other solutions,' said Angel Ramirez, international sales manager for Comtiem. 'the Purfresh arrivals showed less decay, stronger colour and longer shelf life, and as a result, we have experienced fewer claims and an improvement in the company's bottom line. We are thrilled with the technology and will continue to utilise Purfresh for future shipments.'

Miguel Gomez, Purfresh sales manager for Central America and Mexico, noted that growers, shippers and exporters were looking to maintain fruit quality and turn to reliable, cost-effective technologies, something that his group could offer.

'The demand we are experiencing in Mexico – to export limes, mangoes and bananas – validates the value our technology brings to the global shipping industry, and we look forward to continuing to work with Comtiem for many seasons,' he added.
