Metro Cash & Carry is to make what have been described as 'significant job cuts' to its workforce, according to a report by Lebensmittel Zeitung.

The publication, quoted by Planet Retail, said that the Metro Group-owned retailer was cutting back due to a weak sales and earnings performance.

According to the report, the group's Dominique Minnaert is reducing its second tier of management after axing many key positions in the past months.
