Koppert Biological Systems

Fast-growing organic crop control specialist Koppert Biological Systems is opening a new branch in Greece, the Dutch group has revealed.

The Koppert Hellas office will open later this month in Athens and represents a major step forward for the group, which has already been active in Greece for several years through distributor Charantonis.

Charantonis recently announced plans to cease its operations, however, prompting the Dutch company to work directly in Greece.

Peter Maes, director of Koppert's business unit for Europe, explained: 'We believe that the Greek agriculture and horticulture sector will develop in the coming years.

'Greek agriculture and horticulture is quite intensive, and because of the country's climatology this sector can be developed further in a sustainable way.'

According to Maes, Koppert Hellas has deliberately located its offices in Athens because, in a country where logistics can be a challenge, the capital is regarded as the best place from which to establish a good distribution network.

Charantonis's former agents will work as Koppert's new distributors in the north and south of Greece, as well as on the island of Crete, and are expected to make 'an important contribution to these business efforts'.
