According to FranceAgriMer, France's national agriculture board, potato sales in the country have increased by 11.3 per cent in the first seven months of 2012 compared with the year-earlier period.

Between 26 December last year and 5 August 2012, purchases of potatoes were reportedly up by 7.6 per cent in relation to the 2007-2011 average.

However, at €0.84/kg, average prices were down by 16.2 per cent year-on-year and 5.8 per cent lower than the five-year average.

According to the figures, the level of penetration increased by 4.3 per cent in relation to 2011, to 48.5 per cent, with average purchases standing at some 35.5kg per household.
