The Kloosterboer Group has announced that it has started building a second coldstorage facility at Maasvlakte in Rotterdam, as it aims to enlarge its existing facility by 5,000m2 of temperature controlled space.
Once the new facility is completed, total capacity will come to 72,000 pallet spaces, enabling Kloosterboer to deal with a greater number and more varied range of consignments within the Port of Rotterdam.
Kloosterboer is implementing 28 new dock shelters, which it has said is significant with the growth of the container market, as well as cooling cells that will enable the handling and storage of fresh produce.
"The layout of the new premises with eight cool and freeze cells make it more suitable for the transit market and for clients with smaller-sized batches," the group noted.
The expected completion date of the new facility is June 2013, Kloosterboer said.
