Dutch peppers

A major UK bell pepper supplier has expanded.

Rainbow Growers Group Holding has purchased a unique nursery in Andijk, in the northern part of the Netherlands, comprising an 'ultra-modern company' with a greenhouse of 10ha and a site of 32ha for possible expansion.

As part of the acquisition, Rainbow has acquired assimilation lighting, CHPs and sorting machines, along with subsidies assigned in order to be able to develop a project to generate heat energy from the earth.

Within the next four weeks, the first red bell pepper plants will be planted and grown under light at the site.

The sales of the product through Dutch sales organisation Harvest House will then commence from spring 2014.

Rainbow general manager, Wim Grootscholten, said: “Rainbow is a solid group of shareholders who understands the meaning of co-operating, and this great investment shows that. Thanks to the solidarity of our growers and their enthusiasm for the right vision of the future.'
