Food inspectors in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, have seized rotten fruit from the emirate's fruit and vegetable market following accusations that it was being sold to juice shops, Gulf News has reported.
The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA), which was monitoring the shops, said that fruit unfit for human consumption was being sold at cheaper prices to lure juice shops in the city.
The confiscated fruit was destroyed and legal action is being taken against those selling it, according to the ADFCA.
Ahmad Al Ka’abi, head of field operations at ADFCA’s Al Ain branch, told Gulf News that an inspection campaign had been launched to check all the food establishments, cafeterias and fresh juice outlets to ensure food safety standards were being met.
