Food producers can apply for fresh EU funding

UK trade bodies in the food sector have a fresh chance to apply for funding towards marketing programmes for EU products.

Producers of fresh and processed fruit and vegetables can apply for up to half the cost of marketing their goods abroad, in a scheme designed to increase sales of EU food products.

Products with protected geographical indications (PGI), including wine, and organics are also eligible for the scheme.

The maximum allowance is 60 per cent of promotion costs towards fruit and vegetables intended specifically for children in EU schools.

The next deadlines to apply for funding are 15 April and 30 September 2014.

Applicants have to fund at least 20 per cent of the total cost of the programme and can pay the remaining balance themselves or finance it by industry levy.

Defra and The Rural Payments Agency (RPA) will evaluate each application, which can be sent to promotions@rpa.gsi.gov.uk

A first draft may be submitted up to two months ahead of the deadline.

RPA makes Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) support payments, traces livestock and carries out inspections. It manages around 40 schemes over more than two million land parcels.
