Cathay Pacific new HK terminal

Cathay Pacific’s new US$720m cargo terminal at Hong Kong International Airport officially opened for business on Monday. A grand opening ceremony was held at the facility – which has been fully operational since October – attended by Leung Chun-ying, the chief executive of the Hong Kong special administrative region.

“Maintaining Hong Kong’s position as an international aviation hub hinges on two key elements: connectivity and infrastructure,” Leung said at the inauguration. “With a prime location in the Asia-Pacific region passengers and cargo can reach all major Asian cities by air within four hours, and half the world’s population within five hours.”

John Slosar, Cathay Pacific’s CEO said the airline had “worked tirelessly to develop the Hong Kong hub for both passengers and air cargo, and we continue to make huge investments – in the terminal and in new aircraft – that will boost our city’s competitive edge.”

The airline has launched a number of new direct cargo flights that will help boost fresh produce shipments to the region, including a twice-weekly freighter service linking Guadalajara in Mexico to Hong Kong.
