The Brassica Growers Association (BGA) is celebrating after becoming the only UK organisation toreceive funding from a special €23 millionEU budget.

The cash, which is designed to boost thepromotion of agricultural products in the EU and third-world countries, will be used

The announcement follows on from the BGA securing HorticultureDevelopment Company funding last year in order to support the three-yearprogramme targeting parents and children. This latest tranche of capital willallow for an expansion of the Love Your Greens campaign.

Initial funding came from contributions made by members of the BGA, whichwas matched by the HDC, and further fund-matched by the EU.

The funding application and campaign, developed by marketing agency TheLittle Big Voice, is now reaching the end of its first year, with achievementsincluding the launch of a brand new website, and media partnerships targetingparents and children.

Activities planned for the second year of the campaigninclude the distribution of tens of thousands of free seed packs to schools, community projects and families in order to educate children on the origins oftheir food. There will also be a recipe book for students.

Matthew Rawson, BGA chair, said:“We’re thrilled to have been selected to receive this additional funding from
the EU, particularly as we were the only successful UK bid. Thescheme applies to all agriculture and horticulture sectors, not just freshproduce, so we’re very lucky to have been selected as one of thebeneficiaries.

'The Love Your Greens campaign has seen an incredible response and we’rereally pleased with the impact it has had so far. We aim to make it bigger andbetter over the next two years, with a really exciting programme of activitiesstill to come.”
