Eating mangoes

New data from the Food Consumption Panel of the Ministry of Agriculture in Spain has revealed that household spending on and overall consumption of fruits and vegetables fell through the first quarter of the year.

The figures, reported by Fepex, showed that overall fresh produce consumption fell 4 per cent year-on-year to 2.69m kg.

Fruit consumption fell 4.2 per cent to 1.4m kg, driven in particular by falls in oranges and apples, while vegetable consumption actually climbed 3 per cent to 937m kg.

Household spending dropped 6.7 per cent overall to €3.55m, with falls for both fruit (down 7.8 per cent) and vegetables (4.8 per cent).
