Peru’s participation in the 2014 edition of World Food Moscow was hailed as a major success by the Peruvian Association of Producers and Agro Exporters Guilds (Agap), with more than 150 new valuable business contacts from around the world having been made at the event.
The association’s executive director Ana María Deustua told Andina that Russian demand for fresh fruits and vegetables from Peru has risen significantly since Moscow imposed its ban on EU agricultural imports in retaliation for EU sanctions over Ukraine.
Deustua said table grape producers are preparing to consolidate exports in 2014 after hitting a record high of US$44m last year. Pomegranate and citrus shipments were also increasing, having risen by 46 per cent and 19 per cent respectively so far this year compared with 2013.
A total of 11 Peruvian companies and three exporter associations took part in World Food Moscow, which was held on 15-18 September.
