Prices of key items of fruit and vegetables will remain unchanged in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, during Ramadan after suppliers made an agreement with the ministry of economy, according to a report from Emirates 24/7.

Traders in the Emirate also committed to boosting imports by up to 40 per cent to guarantee sufficient quantities during the festival, which starts in the second half of June.

“We agreed with those companies not to raise the prices of their products during Ramadan,” said Hashim Al Nuaimi, consumer protection director.

He added that the ministry would carry out random visits to cooperatives and supermarkets to ensure compliance.
