Greek farmers are protesting its government's austerity measures by disrupting traffic on major motorways across the country, according to Reuters.

Stopping short of completely blocking roads, farmers reportedly gathered near the city of Larissa in central Greece to protest cuts to farm subsidies and high taxes on fuel.

A parallel protest by Greece's seamen, who have been striking since last week, is having a greater impact on trade, causing shortages on grocery shelves and affecting exports to the Balkans and beyond, according to the Athens Central Vegetable Market Association.

The strike is reportedly affecting the supply of produce from islands including Crete to the mainland, as well as from the mainland to Europe via Italian ports.
