Spanish tomatoes

Spain's fruit and vegetable export value climbed during May, up 8 per cent when compared with the same period last year, Fepex has reported.

The fresh produce group, processing data from the Department of Customs and Excise, found that export value hit €1.14bn through the month, despite volumes slipping five per cent year-on-year to 1m tonnes.

By category, fruit exports climbed 5 per cent in value compared with the same month of 2014 at €793m, while volumes were reduced 5 per cent, reaching 676,040 tonnes.

Vegetable value, meanwhile, grew by 15 per cent, reaching €353.5m, while volumes slid back 4 per cent.
