Eroski has become the latest supermarket to sell misshapen produce in a bid to cut food waste with the launch of its “As ugly as they are tasty” campaign.

From 25 February, customers at the retailer’s stores in Navarra, Spain, have been able to buy deformed fruits and vegetables for up to 50 per cent less than standard produce.

“The campaign is proving popular with consumers, who see it as an ideal way of doing their bit for the environment while saving money,” said Eroski’s CSR manager Alejandro Martínez.

“The products have been grown under the same conditions as regular lines and are therefore of the same quality and just as tasty.”
