CMA CGM's WEMED service

Shipping magnate CMA CGM has launched its first dedicated intra-Mediterranean service.

The WEMED service set sail on 11 March, offering direct transport links between eastern Mediterranean countries (France, Spain, Algeria) and western Mediterranean countries (Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt) via Malta.

“This new service answers the area’s growing commercial exchanges – Turkey being a major economic partner for Mediterranean countries – and strengthens CMA CGM presence on its traditional market,” CMA CGM said in a statement.

“Transit times offered from Southern Europe to East Mediterranean Sea are among the best on the market: Turkey is linked in seven days from Valencia, and 9 days from Marseille.”

The service will be operated by four 1,200 to 1,700 TEU-capacity vessels.

The rotation is as follows: Marseille, Barcelona, Valencia, Malta, Mersin, Iskenderun, Beirut, Alexandria, Malta, Algiers and Marseille.
