Hazera Open Day

Vegetable seed companies Hazera and Clause, part of France’s Limagrain Group, are set to hold their annual International Open Days on 27-29 September on a brand-new 2ha field in Warmenhuizen, in the Netherlands.

According to a company press release, the event represents a great opportunity to “discover the latest varieties, introductions, innovations and technologies in open-field vegetable growing” and attracts 800-1,000 professional visitors.

Crops on show will apparently include white, red, savoy and pointed cabbag, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, onions, carrots, beetroot, lettuces, squashes, leeks, radish, pumpkins, celeriac, turnips, corn, rocket and endives. A selection of tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelons and other fruit crops will also be on display.

“Visitors can subscribe to excursions to visit leading companies,” Hazera revealed. “And during the whole event delicious dishes and tapas will be served, freshly prepared using the vegetables shown in the field.”

Hazera announced that it would present its new brassica items, such as high-yielding Brussels sprouts for processing , cabbages that can be stored for a long time in continental conditions, a range of broccoli varieties tolerant to high heat, and an onion range that combined high yields and long storage.

Clause is apparently focusing on new cauliflower and broccoli products, including the sprouting broccoli, Calebrini, as well as Alternaria-resistant carrots, virus-resistant squash varieties and a range of decorative and edible pumpkins.
