The European Union has lifted a three-year ban on four Indian vegetables, reports the Press Trust of India.

India's agriculture ministry announced yesterday (3 January) that the government received communication from the EU ending its embargo on Indian bitter gourd, snake gourd, taro leaves and aubergines imposed in May 2014, the press agency said.

The vegetables were banned after harmful organisms were found in imported consignments.

Last year the Indian government had said it was taking all diplomatic steps to help get the European Union ban on Indian vegetables lifted.

Minister of state for commerce and industry Nirmala Sitharaman had taken up the issue with European Union officials and had also discussed with various European nations, including the UK, the report said.
