Tesco is cutting costs

Tesco is planning to cut 1,200 jobs at its head office as part of its turnaround plan and cost-cutting strategy, the BBC has reported.

The retailer said the move, expected to slash the number of staff at its sites at Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield by a quarter, was a “significant next step” in the reorganisation of the company.

The cuts come after the retailer said it would close a call centre in Cardiff with 1,200 job losses. Earlier this year it said 1,000 roles would go as it reduced the number of distribution centres.

'This new service model will simplify the way we organise ourselves, reduce duplication and cost but also, very importantly, allow us to invest in serving shoppers better,' a spokesperson told the BBC.
