Multinational fresh produce supplier Westfalia has revelead that its new production facility in Portugal, Westfalia Fruit Iberia, recently completed its 2017 phase of plantings.
According to the group the facility, which is situated within a Portuguese microclimate, is designed to become Europe's largest avocado orchard.
The production facility grows the Hass avocado variety, and also boasts a 'significant acreage' of the Gem variety, Westfalia noted.
As part of its push in the region, Westfalia will exhibit at Fruit Attraction in Madrid for the first time, showcasing its global marketing and supply chain capabilities with representatives from Europe, North and South America and Africa.
