The Italy-backed Freshness from Europe promotional project has again showcased the best that the country has to offer at Asia Fruit Logistica in Hong Kong.

Organised by CSO Italy, the campaign's exhibition at the event included some fifteen companies promoting the values of Italian fresh produce to countries including China, Japan and the UAE.

Several Italian products have proved a major hit in Asia, most notably kiwifruit, with CSO Italy figures showing that 46,000 tonnes were exported to the region in 2016.

Table grapes and plums are two of the other exports enjoying growing success in the region, CSO noted, with further potential for growth in oranges.

Simona Rubbi, in charge of the opening of new markets, and Bianca Bonifacio, head of CSO Italy’s exhibitions and internationalisation, confirmed a good flow of operators and the strong impact of CSO Italy’s stands at the event.

'The Asian trade is showing great interest in all main Italian products, starting from kiwifruit, obviously, but also in pears, apples, grapes, and oranges, and this confirms the need to keep on working to open the Chinese market and the other Asian markets to our produce,' they confirmed.
