Sustainable banana grower-shipper One Banana has pledged to continue making a difference in the field of corporate social responsibility in 2018, thorugh its existing programmes and increased activity.

The company, which has operations in the US, Guatemala, Europe, Peru and and Ecuador, was responding to the recent new year's message from UN secretary-general António Guterres, who urged countries and businesses alike to share values, resolve conflicts and rebuild trust in communities.

One Banana's CSR programmes are aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals and may of its programmes address the issue touched upon by Guterres.

'Our aim is to empower people and rebuild trust through programmes such as education, health, management and citizen participation,' explained Fernando Bolanos, chief executive of One Banana. 'We become actively involved in the development of the communities and manage projects and state resources for the benefit of their villages.'

The group said that it is aiming to increase its CSR activity in 2018 so that its employees and people in surrounding areas can enjoy 'shared values, better healthcare and education, and stronger communities'.
