European flavours

Following successful appearances at two leading US fresh produce trade fairs – FMI in Las Vegas and Fancy Food in New York – the EU is set to bring its European Flavours roadshow to the PMA Fresh Summit 2008, which takes place from 24-28 October.

Some of the best European fruit and vegetable products will feature at the show, which runs alongside the PMA trade exhibition, and European Flavours will be the centrepiece of an evening function to be held at the Peabody Hotel, Orlando on 26 October.

According to European Flavours’ organisers, the show will provide a great opportunity to showcase the characteristics of the best fruit and vegetable products from Europe to important buyers, retailers and importers.

Emphasis will be placed on fresh products, such as oranges, pears, peaches, nectarines, kiwis and plums, which are in large part classified under the Protected Geographical Indication programme which certifies product origins.

European Flavours, whose €4m budget is 50 per cent funded by the EU and 30 per cent by Italy’s Ministry of Agriculture, is a three-year project aimed at increasing international consumption of European produce in important markets, such as the US, Japan and Russia.

The project is also part funded by Italian fresh produce marketing body Centro Servizi Ortofrutticoli (CSO) and a number of leading CSO member companies – including Alegra, Naturitalia and Consorzio KiwiGold – will be present at the trade fair.
