The new white flat nectarine variety developed by Agro Selections Fruits

A new white flat nectarine variety developed by French breeders Agro Selections Fruits (ASF) will hit retailers in two years time.

Under ASF’s brand name Regal’in, the nectarine will go on sale in France after the first yield of commercially planted trees.

Six farmers from across France were selected to grow the new variety forming the Association of the White Flat Nectarines REGAL'IN™, attending a launch event at Perpignan’s medFEL conference.

ASF’s Pascal Bassols said he was confident the variety would prove a hit, following in the footsteps of the flat peach.

“The taste perfectly balances sugar with acidity, which is the most important thing. It’s been 20 years in research, I think it will be all over Europe.

“There’s a lot of demand by the big companies, they want it as it’s a new product, just as the flat peach was 20 years ago.

“The main production will begin in 2020 and will be sold under our brand Regal’in.”
