Maersk’s second-generation Triple-E class vessel, the Mumbai Maersk, has set a new world record.

Carrying a load of 19,038 TEU, the vessel has surpassed a previous record set by the first-generation Madison Maersk vessel which reached 18,215 TEU in 2015.

Departing the dock of Tanjung Pelepas Port in Malaysia last weekend, Mumbai Maersk will travel across to Europe and expected to make its next call in Rotterdam on 5 September.

“Our hubs are currently breaking existing productivity records,” said Keith Svendsen, chief operating officer at APM Terminals.

“This record on most loaded containers during a port stay is one of many illustrations showing that we are well-positioned to become a company of operators who are proud, passionate and world-class at servicing our clients,” he said.

The company noted this record marks a sign of progress, as Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia is currently a high-productivity terminal.
