Fontestad

Fontestad expects to see significant growth in the 2018/19 citrus season, as it edges closer to towards its goal of producing high quality Spanish-grown oranges all year round.

Thanks to investments in late-season varieties, the company claims it can now supply the market with good quality oranges throughout the summer and into the second week of September and says it is not far from becoming a year-round supplier, according to a report in La Información.

In 2012, Fontestad suffered a devastating fire that totally destroyed its main packhouse in Museros, Valencia. It has since rebuilt the facility with a new 50,000m2 packhouse boasting state-of-the-art technology.

The company posted sales of €135m last season on a sales volume of 120,000 tonnes. Around 40 per cent of this comes from the 900ha of production the company owns in Valencia, Murcia and Andalucía.

As well as its main packhouse, the company operates a distribution facility in Perpignan from which it serves its European customers.
