Agrexco has outlined its pomegranate offer for the 2008 winter holiday season, with exports increasing and a new packaging range developed to cater for the Christmas market.
Yosi Rosenberg, pomegranate product manager at Agrexco, said that exports of the group's Wonderful variety would nearly double this year, from 1,300 tonnes in 2007 to around 2,500 tonnes.
The increase is a result of growing demand, originating from the health benefits of consuming the fruit. 'However, the prerequisites as far as quality and environmental issues are concerned will not be compromised,' Mr Rosenberg said.
The fruit will be sold in single (0.7kg-1.3kg) packs or in pairs (350g-450g each), in specially-designed aesthetic packaging. 'It is the ultimate gift for Christmas, given the holiday's emphasis on red and green colours and the pomegranate's outstanding qualities,' he added.
