GlobalGAP has announced that its members have elected a new board of industry leaders, drawn from an equal number of retailers and producer/suppliers, for a four-year term.

The board members have been elected to represent the views of their respective member constituencies, as opposed to their individual companies or affiliated associations, and assumes full responsibility for overseeing and implementing GlobalGAP's strategies.

'The previous board having fulfilled its term can look back with satisfaction having successfully steered GlobalGAP to a worldwide initiative, with more than 90,000 certified producers in 90 countries,' said GlobalGAP chairman Nigel Garbutt. 'It has been a challenging time also to reach out to more retailers as well as non-industry stakeholders including governments and non-government organisations who recognise the increasing importance of private voluntary standards.'

Producer/Supplier representatives include Josse de Baerdemaker of Brava cvba, Bert Urlings of Vion N.V, Carlos Perez of Marchelot S.A Shrimp aquaculture, Juan Bautista Mir Piqueras of Anecoop and Richard Yudin of Fyffes.

Retailer representatives are Andrea Artoni of Conad, Hug Byrnes of Royal Ahold, Horst Lang of Globus SB Warenhaus, Stephen Ridge of Asda and Johan Zueblin of Migros.
